Berry Curvature

Dear Taisuke Ozaki,

I want to study the Berry curvature, Chern number and Z2 invariant of an insulator by using calB and Z2FH code. I have calculated the Chern number and  Z2 invariant of Bi(111) 0 and 1, respectively. Is it correct? I thought these quantities are related to each other. How can we describe the Berry curvature of Bi(111) with Z2=1?

Dear Mitra

Hi, thank you for using my calB and Z2FH code.

In Bi(111) case, your result of C=0 and Z2=1 is correct.
Chern number characterize a quantum anomalous Hall system, so it must be 0 on the non-magnetic system. On the other hand,
Z2 invariant characterize a quantum spin Hall system, and it is defined on the non-magnetic system (time-reversal symmetric system).
